The monarch butterfly is one of the most recognizable butterflies with its vibrant orange and black wings. Millions of monarchs take a famous seasonal migration traveling from the United States and Canada south to California and Mexico for the winter and back again the next spring and summer.

  2. Cut out the "Butterfly Life Cycle Cards" and organize them in sequential order (1,2,3,4) on to the next page
  3. After you have arranged the cards, discuss them with your family and friends.

Talk It Over!

  1. Who lays eggs? Do Caterpillars lay eggs? Do pupa lay eggs?
  2. What hatches from eggs? What do you see eating the leaves?
  3. How do the larva (caterpillars) rest before becoming adults?
  4. What emerges from the pupa?
